A Basic Explanation of How to Use Light Therapy
Exploring How to Use Light Therapy
There is so much information available about how to use light therapy, it can be overwhelming, but at the end of the day, there is little to no risk with light therapy so you need to simply use it! Don't be afraid of it, it cannot hurt you! Don’t stress about how much power or how long or what distance, just use it! I promise you will feel better and experience results! Don’t expect miracles, be consistent, and slowly digest the little bits of information over time. It truly is a lifelong change and it's amazing once you experience it. Just don’t let your device collect dust somewhere because you are afraid to use it incorrectly!
With that being said, most devices offer red and infrared wavelengths. If you have the Light Therapy Resource torch then you also have blue. The image below shows the depth of penetration of each light type and as you will see, blue light has the least amount of penetration, making it effective for skin level, acne, etc. issues. Red light begins to get a bit deeper into the skin and infrared gets even deeper into the body, effecting muscle and tissue. A simple way to think about it is the depth of penetration coincides with the amount of time needed under the light. So in order to penetrate deeper into the body with infrared light, typically your light therapy session will be longer than if you are focused on skin elasticity or a skin infection. Make sense?
