What are the Side Effects of Too Much Light Therapy?

by Sandra Burkhart

Do you wonder about red light therapy side effects from too much Light Therapy? That's a great question and one of the amazing things about light therapy is that you really can’t do too much harm to yourself if you overdo it a bit. You just might not feel so hot later on. Typical red light therapy side effects include:

• Headaches (outside of headaches that you might normally experience...think hangover headache)

• Exhaustion

• Dehydration

• Detoxification reactions (fever, chills, myalgia, headache, tachycardia, hyperventilation, flushing, etc.)

In a nutshell, it feels like a hangover with a mix of flu symptoms! It is short lived and although it doesn't feel great, it's just your body working overtime to detoxify itself. It will typically subside within a few hours. My best advice if you want to avoid red light therapy side effects is to take it slow, follow the manufacturers guidelines for proper session time, and drink plenty of water. This will allow your body to work most efficiently to detoxify itself after Light Therapy. Remember, you can always add more time as your body gets used to Light Therapy. It's a long term wellness solution, not a quick fix! Click here to visit the Light Therapy Resource website and view our catalog of light therapy devices.
